Relationships. - Tina Marie's Ramblings
Red hair and black leather, my favorite colour scheme...
I've noticed something.

At any given time, my relationships (both the little-r and the big-R type (respice, I will always be appreciative of you for giving me that term)), have a tendency to fall into one of 3 states:

  1. Things are good. In fact, things are going so well that I tend to ignore or forget about the bad things.
  2. Things are bad. Generally, so bad that I tend to ignore or forget about the good things.
  3. Somewhere in between.

New Relationship Energy is about being stuck in the first state. Almost every relationship starts out there, I think. In most cases, I have a tendency to alternate between the first and second states - things are really, really good until enough little annoyances build up to kick me over to the second state, then either things end or enough of them get resolved to push me back into being happy. But the long-term, steady, stable relationships I have all tend to fall into the third group.

I realized recently that "stability" is exactly the right term.

In aviation, stability has a precise meaning: dynamic stability refers to the tendency of an airplane to return to it's original state. An airplane with negative dynamic stability will, when disturbed in pitch, oscillate back and forth in ever-increasing cycles. An aircraft with positive dynamic stability will oscillate a few times in ever-lessening cycles, until it returns to where it was before.

Therefore, the solution to the problem is obvious: I'd be happier in my relationships if I just had a bigger tail surface.

Current Mood: weird weird
