Friends.... - Tina Marie's Ramblings
Red hair and black leather, my favorite colour scheme...
(This is really yesterday's post. I really did write it yesterday - I just forgot to hit send before I went to bed)

In a response to a comment I made, someone said to me, "How in the world did we ever become friends?", and it got me thinking.

I divided the people I know into groups, and realized there are basically 3 entry points, and they're all sequential:

-1: I meet someone, and something about them rubs me the wrong way, but due to circumstances, I have to keep hanging out with them (these are generally friends-of-friends). Most people never make it out of here, and eventually they rub me the wrong way enough that I start actively avoiding them, or the circumstances change and I don't have to hang out with them any more. Or they move on to the next step...

0: This is where most people come in. We've got some interests in common, and they don't actively annoy me. A good number of people drop out at this level, too, because at this point I'd call them an "acquaintance", and I'd not be likely to make an effort to spend time with them if it weren't for whatever the common interest was. But then sometimes I find I have more in common with them then I thought, and they move up...

1: This is a rare one for me, but sometimes I meet someone who I really like, just from the start, and they get to jump over the early steps. People who either enter here or get here from an earlier step are generally people who I would spend time with even if it weren't for common interests, and someone who I'd seek out if I lost contact with them.

Some of these take more effort then others. But anyone who makes it through the whole gauntlet is likely to end up being a really good friend - no matter how unlikely the starting point was.
