But, Daddy, all my friends were doing it!
Another hour to sit here and watch my computer do work, so what the heck:

Abortion? Should be legal, but shouldn't be used as a primary form of birth control. Along the same lines, I think men have the right to opt out of fatherhood/child support up to about 3 months after they're told the child does/is going to exist.

Death Penalty? Yes. I live in Texas, what did you expect me to say?

Prostitution? Legalize, regulate, and tax. Forcing someone into prostitution should remain a crime.

Alcohol? Get rid of some of the excessively stupid regulations (state-only liquor stores?), otherwise leave alone.

Marijuana? Legalize, regulate, and tax.

Other drugs? Legalize, regulate, and tax. Hard drugs should be taxed highly enough to pay for free rehab for any user who wants it.

Gay marriage? Yes. Gays have the right to be miserable just like heterosexuals. (heard on Letterman the other night: "Same-sex marriage? They're all same-sex marriages - you get married, then it's the same sex for the rest of your life!")

Illegal immigrants? Either close the borders right, or open them and grant amnesty to the ones who are here. Either will work, but what we've got now is hypocritical.

Smoking? No particular opinion.

Drunk driving? First offense, jail for a year. Second offense, jail for five years and a lifetime loss of license on the basis that you're too stupid to learn from the first experience. Kill someone and it should be murder one.

Cloning? You can't stop science.

Racism? Eliminate it, not by regulation of free speech, but by education. Get rid of both affirmative action. Either apply hate crime laws fairly, or get rid of them (sense a thread here?)

Premarital sex? Sure, why not, but if you have kids, you pay for them.

Religion? I'm all for religious freedom, but some religions are much more dangerous memes than others. I'm for strict separation of church and state, even if it means the Christmas tree can't be displayed in front of City Hall.

The war in Iraq? Vietnam all over again. Get out, stay home, and deal with our own issues.

Bush? What are we gonna do tonight, Cheney? Try to take over the world!

Downloading music? It's theft, just like pirating software.

The legal drinking age? You can drink as soon as you're old enough to make enough money to buy it yourself.

Porn? Legalize, regulate, and tax.

Suicide? the_carrot said it best: Sometimes there's just no point in sitting through the rest of a bad movie.

Current Mood: bored bored

re: Suicide, indeed, life is about the pursuit of values... if that pursuit is infeasible, due to chronic pain or whatever, why linger?

Ironically, John Ashcroft et. al. believes that chronic pain is preferable to addiction, and yet, he also opposes physician-assisted suicide. Makes me wonder how he manages to square his world view. Assuming he even tries to square his world view. Perhaps I assume too much.

With the obvious caveat that downloading music *with the copyright holder's permission* is not theft any more than downloading Debian GNU/Linux is theft.
