Summer updates
Summer's hit in full force here. We've already had a lot of 100+ days. It's too hot to be out, too hot to ride anywhere, too hot to go to the airport.

I did get a business trip to Portland a few weeks ago. I'd never been there, but it's now on my list of "places I'd be happy retiring". I haven't uploaded the pictures yet, but I managed to squeeze in a few hours at Mt. Hood State Park, and a trip with my friend John O to the Evergreen Aviation Museum to see the Spruce Goose. There's no way to express just how enormous that airplane is - you just have to stand under it to understand.

But I came home with bronchitis and two ear infections, so it wasn't all good. Despite a round of antibiotics, I'm still coughing. If it's anything like my previous round of bronchitis, I'm going to be coughing for another month.

We made it out to the airport for the 4th, where my mechanic fired up his L-39:
It sounds great - I expect it'll be flying before the end of the summer. We didn't stay long, since the humidity makes my cough even worse.

I know I put pictures up on FaceBook, but I don't think I mentioned it here: there are two new kittens terrorizing the household.

Meet Xena:
And Thera:

Those pictures are a month old, so they're a good bit bigger now. I have high hopes of teaching them to fetch.

The local library is closed for renovations this summer, so I'm short on books. I've been filling up my wish list on Paperback Swap. I finished Addition the other night, and I have two more on their way.

The local indoor range had a fire last weekend, so it's put a damper on my Tuesday nights of shooting. They're looking for a new location, but I suspect that anywhere they pick is going to be too far away for me to make it in time after work.

My WoW guild has been working our way through Naxx on weekend nights. We've got all 4 main quarters down, but still haven't downed the last two bosses.

Other then that, life's been quiet. I'm looking forward to being able to be outside again - in another 3 months.

retiring?!? It's a fabulous place to _live_ :)

*laugh* I have too many ties to Houston to leave right now. Job, house, aging parents. But 15-20 years from now, I'm going to be ready to go somewhere else, and so I'm making a mental list of places that might be.

Didn't realize you were there, or I'd have poked you for coffee or something!

When you have to take density altitude into consideration and you live at sea level, it's too hot to fly.

Yes! Still, people up north have it worse - they also can't fly for 3 months of the year, _and_ they have to shovel snow!

how on earth did you manage to get bronchitis and two ear infections just by going to Portland? (and here's wishing you a swift and complete recovery.)

the kittens are, of course, adorable. that's not the Xena that wobblerlorri was socializing, is it - i wouldn't think that you went all the way to Georgia to adopt a kitten... or did you? anyway, they're both "awwww"-inspiring ;-D

and i have severe airplane envy of your mechanic.

On the plane, I think. Both flights were particularly dry.

They're not Lorri's kittens. I was actually tempted to fly over and get scarybaldguy's kittens, but he wanted to keep them together, and I didn't want 4 or 5 cats. A flying buddy of mine worked with a guy who ended up with a set of 4 - we took two of them.

I'm so looking forward to a ride in it. I suspect the gas bill is going to be terrifying, though.

i want a kitten. but my husband (who was Loki's familiar, and, no, that's not a typo) is adamantly not ready to lose his heart to another cat, even though it's been more than a year since Loki died. and we can't afford adoption fees, vet bills, food, and kitty litter right now anyway. but pictures of kittens just make my brain go *KITTY!* (of course, pictures of bunnies make my brain go *BUNNY!*, too...)

Those are adorable kittens! They perpetuate the ultimate cuteness stereotype very well.

I was just in Portland, myself, but didn't think to go to the Evergreen Museum. Isn't it beautiful? I love that nearly every plane is flight capable and operational.

We are in Dallas tonight, and enjoying the dry 104* heat. I'm sure it is WAY more humid down your direction. Good luck and get better soon!

I just want to say it's about 65 degrees here. We had a heat wave the other week, it got up to about 75.....
