Ike! - Tina Marie's Ramblings
Red hair and black leather, my favorite colour scheme...
My email box has been filling up with people asking me about the hurricane. Yes, it's coming, no, we're not leaving. I went by the store yesterday and grabbed some lunchmeat and bread and cheese and such. You could forget about getting water:

So, like most people, we're just going to wait it out. I'm mostly worried about losing power for a long period of time, but I turned the fridge/freezer down as low as it would go to help keep it cold, and we have a natural gas grill down by the pool area that 89 of us can bicker over when it's time to cook. I'm going to throw a pork shoulder in the crockpot today, and we can always eat that cold the rest of the weekend if we have to.

And, worst case, I hear driftingfocus's parents have a generator, so we can always go crash in their guest room. :)

I debated moving the airplane - it's at 29 ft MSL in a 30-foot storm surge area - but I ultimately decided it would be safer at home in the hanger then tied down on a ramp somewhere 200 miles away.

In other news, I've been getting these random mails on Flickr about people wanting to use my pictures in various online things. I usually just say yes and forget about it, but these guys actually sent me a link when they put it up: Trader's Village

Thanks for the report, hope things stay in the green for you!

I've been spending way too much time just now refreshing chron.com and the Galveston Daily News site. This is not one of the days I'm nostalgic about living on the island.

i was just about to post to my LJ and ask how you were prepared to endure another fucking hurricane. i'm glad to hear that you've got it all figured out. of course, you don't have to buy bottled water, as long as the municipal water supply is still working and you have a bunch of bottles or other suitable containers. (when i was a kid growing up on Long Island, they'd tell us to fill up our bathtubs. and if all else fails, there are usually a few gallons of clean water in the tank of the average toilet.)

be well, be safe, and try to stay dry...

Thanks for the update. I'll be sending you good, dry thoughts. :)

Keep us posted when you can.

Gasoline panic here in NC is INSANE. There have been lines at local gas stations all day. Sigh.

Bill Wynn, the IA who looked after our C140 has his maintenance hangar at Galveston Scholes. That's just not good right now. I hope he can get through it.

Where I used to live is well in the flood zones as shown on the Houston Chronicle site... I used to live on the ground floor too, glad I'm not there now.

Of course, refineryland is due to go underwater too.

Good luck.

stay safe!

Or fly up here and get drunk with us on cape cod, but that's a heck of a trip :)
