Tina's Trivia of the day.
When I was very, very little (5 or 6), I remember asking my mother about why fire hydrants weren't all the same color. She told me that teenagers painted them, and when I said I wanted to paint them, she told me that by the time I was a teenager, they'd all be painted. I still remember how deeply disappointed I was.

It was one of those things that always puzzled me when I got older - why would teenagers paint fire hydrants? Well, it turns out she was right.

There was a thread on the local motorcycle forum today about it. You can find the whole thing here. It turns out there is a standard, and the color tells you how much pressure there is at the hydrant. And a common Eagle Scount project is to go around and paint them the right color.

You learn something new every day.
