Hangin' with my peeps!

It's been a busy week.

Last night, driftingfocus and all_seaming_eye came over for an evening of Easter-candy-making. There were cream eggs (including the yellow "yolks", of course) and peeps. driftingfocus was the only one who manages to make them actually look like peeps.

This afternoon, we got off work early, and I went out for a long stroll with the camera. It was one of those wonderful days with a perfectly blue sky. I'm not going to post all the pictures here, but you can pick up my flickr RSS feed at the bottom of the page here.

I tried an interesting new attempt at a recipe last night. Earlier this week, I found a recipe for sweet-potato ravioli that used wonton wrappers instead of pasta dough. They were good, but nothing particularly amazing, but they got me thinking about other stuff I could stick in wonton wrappers.

So last night I cooked a pound of ground beef with a packet of taco seasoning, then wrapped spoonfuls in the wonton wrappers. They went into a pot of boiling water for 3 minutes, then onto parchment paper on a cookie sheet. I wanted them to get crunchy, but they never quite got there. After about 15 minutes at 350, I topped them with cheese. I think they would have had to be friend to get crunchy, and I wasn't going to pull out the deep fryer for that.

And, of course, they had to have a name: Nacho Mama's Ravioli.

You can always pan fry wonton/raviolis in like 1cm of oil. That's what we do rather than deep fat frying and it comes out quite good with a lot less mess.

Peeps are scary. I believe they are of the devil.

I don't know, personally I'll buy Peeps, if for no other reason than to be able to delicately nip their little chocolate eyes off.
