Dead driver's parents suing the tow truck driver he hit, while drunk, speeding, on a cell phone, and not wearing his seatbelt.

As I've posted elsewhere, pin this one up on the board of What The Fuck Is Wrong With America.

They didn't just sue the tow truck driver; add to the list the restaurant where he got drunk, the owner of the restaurant, the tow truck company, and the poor schmuck whose Geo Metro stalled on the highway, precipitating the parking of the tow truck.

Dipshits. Their gravy train went and offed himself, and they don't want the river of cash to dry up. Vultures. (And, no doubt, his insurance company is not going to pay out that claim....)

Good think this wasn't a plane crash, or they'd sue the manufacturer of his car, the seatbelt manufacturer, the company that made his speedometer, and anybody else they could think of as well.

IIRC, someone in Britain burgled a house, then broke an arm falling out of the window as he exited, then successfully sued the homeowner. So, yeah, probably.

From someone's tagline on slashdot - remember, behind every sleazy lawyer there is a sleazy client!

The trouble is that it's all a big free lotto with a good chance of a massive payout. Contingency lawyers and absolutely no consequences when bringing meritless cases, combined with companies settling rather taking the case to court (when they have a good chance of winning).

I wonder if at least the Geo Metro driver and the restaurant can counter-sue for barratry.
