Another great weekend...
I'm learning to fly gilders.

I've been a tow pilot for a few years now, and I've got about 100 hours in the tow planes logged. I've probably got just as much that never made it into the logbook. I've tried flying them a few times, but it never really got me excited, so after a few flights I'd quit again. This weekend, I found my first thermal. It wasn't much - maybe 2 knots, and I was barely wobbling around the edge of it (I swear the bird that had it perfectly cored was laughing at me), but I actually saw the altimeter go up! It was pretty cool. Besides that, in two flights I fixed all my problems on aero-tow, and even got my landings to look halfway decent! If I can do it again next weekend, I should be ready to solo.

Considering that I don't really like gliders, I'm awfully excited about the prospect. :)

Saturday, I spent the beginning of the day adding an air drop to Mike's air system. I cut and threaded pipe on my own for the first time, got everything hooked up, and it didn't leak! It made me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Saturday afternoon I helped Mike replace the intake gasket on the #1 cylinder of the Tripacer. Actually, I mostly got in the way while he fixed it, then did a quick test flight to make sure we'd really stopped the fuel leak. It was totally dry, so that's a good sign. I'm going to replace that cylinder at annual anyway, but it'll be nice to get a few more months out of it.

I spent Sunday working on the 2-33. I got all the control surfaces, the door, and the little supports for the wingtip wheels sandblasted while the rest of the team got the wings ready to paint. Next weekend, we tackle the fuselage. I've got to say, this project is going a lot better (and faster!) then I thought it would.

Sunday afternoon was Mike's check ride - he passed with flying colors.

This morning, I got up early, and spent half an hour with my new DDR:Disney CD. The songs go from "almost too easy" to "too hard' - we'll have to see which CD ends up spending more time in the Playstation.

My nails are growing out nicely, if the scratches all up and down my legs are any indication.

I got a great new cookbook off Amazon the other day to go with my deep fryer, called Fried and True. Falafel, apple fritters, donuts, onion rings, egg rolls, General Tso's chicken...I'm not going to run out of dinner ideas for months. Now I just need to schedule enough time at home to actually try some of them.

Other then that, it was a nice, boring weekend. :)
