My weekend, in haiku. - Tina Marie's Ramblings
Red hair and black leather, my favorite colour scheme...

My weekend, in haiku.
Saturday, scuba
night diving was fun, dark, and
disorienting.

Sunday, nice fall day.
Breezy, sunny, thermaly,
gliders everywhere.

When taxiing slowly,
on grass, one never expects
landing gear collapse.

When right main gear snaps,
right wing bangs onto the ground,
prop throwing up dirt.

Much damage was done.
Wrinkled fabric, bent wing ribs,
crimp on trailing edge.

No, I'm not damaged.
My trusty steed, I'm afraid,
will not fly this month.

Was that your Tripacer, or a tow plane?

It was a Pawnee. I didn't have a camera with me, but some people did - I expect someone to get me pictures this week.

Not the same one that got wrecked earlier this year? Do they have any left?

Why would they put retractable gear on a tow plane, anyway? Seems to me that they need to be robust for grass strips, and since they're spending half their time climbing at Vy and the other half the time diving at Vne, low drag isn't exactly a necessity.

No, this was Pawnee 1, the one that the propeller fell off of earlier last year. The one that got run out of gas was Pawnee 2 - there's a new Pawnee 2 now.

And it wasn't retractable. One of the tubes on the gear legs cracked, then broke entirely, and the whole gear leg just folded outward when I turned. Luckily, I was at idle, taxiing very slowly, so the prop/engine is okay.

Nope. Pawnee 1. It's not been a good year for towplanes.

Luckily, it wasn't my plane, so I don't have to fix it. And the owner understands that it wasn't my fault. But still...

it always sucks when somebody bends an airplane, no matter what the cause. my sympathies.
