It's been a while since an update, I guess.

Big local news this morning: Somebody put a Gulfstream down on Beltway 8, 5 miles from Hobby. Weather's real bad - well below ILS mins right now, although runway 4 (where he was heading) has a Cat II approach.

Last week, I mostly worked. I know I posted already about the chili. I also made jessity's Pumpkin Roll, twice. The first time, I used too much flour, and it came out stiff and really hard to roll. On the second rolling it cracked, and now it's mostly Pumpkin Bread Crumbs Stuck Together With Cream Cheese. But it's wonderful dipped in milk.

The second time, I got the flour right, and it was much easier to roll. But my mother has problems with fat, so I used fat-free cream cheese in this one, and the filling didn't stabilize as well.

Then Friday night, I baked my favorite apple pie. It turned out great - probably the best I've ever done with it. I doubled the crust recipe, so I didn't have to stretch it to fit in my 10-inch pie pan, and it was just the perfect combination of structural stability and flakiness.

Saturday morning, I bought my wetsuit and a big warm sweatshirt for our trip to the Keys next weekend. The wetsuit is a Henderson Hyperstretch - by far the most comfortable wetsuit of any I've tried on.

We had Thanksgiving dinner at my mother's Saturday afternoon, since she has to work next weekend. I took the fat-free pumpkin roll and the apple pie. Everybody loved the apple pie, and my mother suggested I should bring another one for Christmas. Dunno what she thought of the pumpkin roll - I forgot to ask.

Sunday, I was supposed to do an Angel Flight to Ardmore, OK. It got canceled because of freezing rain on the first leg (KS to OK). It would have been a hard trip - solid IFR the whole way - but I still wish it hadn't been canceled. I haven't actually used my IFR rating at all yet (although I've been keeping current by flying approaches in the twin).

So on the way home, I stopped at Randall's to pick up cookie-baking stuff, only to discover they were giving away free turkeys if you bought $50. I wasn't going to pass it up, but I didn't have room in the freezer for it, so I passed it along to a friend who's out of work at the moment.

I finally got home last night and made chocolate-chip cookies.

Why, yes, I do do a lot of baking this time of year.

This week: Sugar cookies tonight. Another batch of chocolate chip on Tuesday. More sugar cookies on Wednesday. Going to the Keys Thurs-Sunday. I'll be in town all week, then Saturday I'm going to San Francisco for a few days of vacation....

You made cookies last night, and wrote in your blog about them, but you didn't bring me any today? That's just . . . evil.
