People who use challenge-response systems on their email should be beaten over the head with a clue-by-four.

A multilayered approach seems to work without annoying senders. First level: SBL+XBL (spamhaus.org). Second level: SpamAssassin. Third level: Procmail rule to shitcan the junk at the server. Fourth level: MUA junk filter. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses and the combined effect is it kills the vast majority of the >100 spams I get a day in my personal inbox.
