I love weekends.
I want to live somewhere where the weather is like it was this weekend all the time - mid 70's, sunny, just the right humidity. We only get days like that a couple of times a year, and we got two of them this weekend!

I should have gone to work, but I just couldn't. I spent Saturday hanging out at the soaring club. I was hoping to solo, but I rushed the recovery from a slack rope (too much spoiler!), and at 1500ft, the rope snapped. So I came around and landed and tried again. The second flight, the tow pilot screwed up, and so I didn't get to finish boxing the wake. My instructor said I need more confidence on tow.

Saturday night was Amy's birthday, so I actually braved the mall to go shopping for her. I almost had fun.

Sunday, we scheduled people to come out and get the fabric envelope on the club 2-33. When I got out there, the mechanic who's 'supervising' us had been there. He found a couple of problems with the hardware they'd installed, and when Mike and I went over it one last time, we found at least a half-dozen more he'd missed. It made me wonder just who's supervising whom. Anyway, we got the envelope on. I'm not entirely positive it's right, but I'll call the manufacturer today and check on the things I'm not sure about.

I took an hour off to fly the glider again. It went much better, but this instructor also mentioned that I need more confidence on tow. I think it's just going to take a few more flights and I'll have it down.

Sunday night, there was a crawfish boil at Brittney's. Dru (my mechanic) thinks I shouldn't bother with repairing the Bobcat, and should just build myself a Pawnee copy from scratch. The idea is appealing, but I'm pretty sure you can't get insurance for a custom design, and I can't afford to walk away from that much money ($25K or so) if anything happens. But it's an idea - I'll probably keep my eyes open for a Pawnee fuselage wreck.

I had one of those moments this weekend, just hanging out, when I realized that, wow, people like me. No matter how well I know that rationally, it's surprising to really feel it every now and again.

Yeah, it was a good weekend. :)

You ought to move to the Isle of Man then. Most of our summer is like you described :-) September last year was really nice. (And despite being about 55* N, we don't get cold winters, it seldom gets below freezing. But the winters are very wet and very windy).

Perhaps I'll have to come visit. :)

this instructor also mentioned that I need more confidence on tow.

If it's any consolation, back when I was soaring I always found that being on tow was the tensest part of the flight, if only because I felt like I wasn't in complete control during that phase. Once I pulled that red knob, the feeling went away.
