The world is full of idiots.
As an example, let me tell you about the idiot who broke into my car last night.

I own a 1997 Miata. I never lock the doors, because I've always said that I'd rather lose my radio then have my top slashed.

A few months ago, I put in a new radio and speakers. It's a very nice $200 radio - CD/MP3/AM/FM and so on.

This morning, I find my top slashed, my driver's side seat back broken, and my radio gone.

Yep. The idiot sliced my top open and crawled through the back window to steal the radio out of an unlocked car.

*sigh*

On the upside, I was going to replace the top anyway, and the new top is in a box in my apartment. The seat upholstery was pretty torn up anyway, and now I have an excuse to get it fixed too. The radio had some sort of particularly serious anti-theft stuff (well, so the salesman said), so it had a free replacement warranty if stolen. It's not going to cost me a significant amount of money. But it's going to be a pain.

The officer who came out to take my report (and reports from the other 2 people who had the same thing happen last night) said it was really common to have new radios stolen - he said the installers just make a list of the addresses, then go back and steal the radios to resell.

In 6 months this will be funny. Today, I Am Not Amused.

Current Mood: aggravated aggravated

Ginsberg's theorem...

Sigh. Ginsberg's theorem sounds really true at these times:

1. You can't win.
2. You can't even break even.
3. You can't get out of the game.

I wish it wasn't unlawful to have the outer shell of your car radio kept at a few tens of kilovolts to punish the bastards.

Re: Ginsberg's theorem...

This morning, I seriously consided doing something like that to the new radio. The temptation was very, very high.

Funny you should mention that...

My first flight instructor told me not to lock the plane because people will wreck your airplane cutting through the thin aluminum trying to steal your avionics. My flying club disagrees with him, however, so we keep them locked.

You know, I never thought about that with an airplane. Guess I should be glad I don't have a GNS-430 after all.
