i just found out that there's a Five Guys that recently opened near me. i'd love to try them, but i emailed them to ask whether the burgers are pre-seasoned in any way (because i'm allergic to onions and garlic, and Denny's, for example, serves burgers that have garlic and other seasonings blended into the meat), and they never replied. i can eat the peanuts with no trouble at all, though.

I had a hot dog, so I'm not sure about the burgers, but I'll ask them next time I go. This one just opened a few blocks from the house, and that was our first visit.

any hot dog that's described as "all beef" always has garlic in it. (there are some brands of kosher beef franks that seem to be pureed garlic lightly seasoned with beef.)

after not getting an email response from Five Guys, i tried calling their "24-hour hotline", in the middle of the night. a recorded welcome answered, and urged me to stay on the line for the next available representative. however, it didn't ring through to anything; it just gave me intermittent bursts of static. but i decided to try again, at 7:15 AM EDT. lo and behold - i got a person! and he told me that the meat is 80% lean, fresh ground beef, never frozen, and not seasoned with anything before, during, or after cooking, except what the customer orders.

so the next time i can afford to dine out, i'm going to Five Guys!

that may be a while... i'm on an absurdly restricted budget, and their online menu doesn't give any prices.

My CC receipt says $17.49. That was a burger, a bacon cheese hot dog, one order of fries, and two drinks.

well, i suspect the reason that the website doesn't give prices is that they're different in various parts of the country. but, based on your numbers there, i'd say that one "entree", one order of fries, and one drink would work out to somewhere around $10 per person. i might just about be able to manage that for a special treat... but i only have the use of the car between 4 and 8:30 AM :-(
