I needed to relax...
It's been a good weekend.

Yesterday, the soaring club had a cross-country training day. I went out, got into a glider I'd never flown before, the instructor covered the altimeter, and I got towed to around 3000ft. We did some air work, then I had to land on a special 400ft long spot on the runway. I put the spoilers all the way in, planning to take them out just before landing, but when I tried at about 50ft, they wouldn't budge. I thought the instructor was holding them shut to simulate failed spoilers, so I ignored them and landed, 40ft short. When I asked the instructor, he said, no, he hadn't been holding them - they're just very difficult to close. The next two times, I was more aggressive, and landed easily in the 400ft, earning my C badge.

I figured that wasn't half bad for a glider I'd never flown before.

Then, Mike and I did a bit of hangar cleaning, went off to the farmer's market (got some wonderful-looking fresh turnips), did dinner with Michael, then we hung out in Lenny's new hanger for a bit.

Today, then engine on George's Cessna 150 has been running rough, so we pulled it inside, pulled the cowlings and plugs, and did a compression test. The left rear cylinder exhaust valve isn't closing properly, so when I left the guys were working on getting it unstuck.

I'm feeling far more relaxed now. :)
