"I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he or she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights. "

Rainy Day: I'm English... rain doesn't bother me ;) Now hot, humid Houston days on the other hand? That can get me cranky if I have to work outside.

Lost Luggage: Patiently work thru the system. Yelling at hapless counter clerks who didn't individually contribute to the problem doesn't help.

Tangled Christmas Lights: Untangle if not too bad. After about 15min, buy new ones ;)

Throw the lights out into the rain (plugged in) and have an umbrella drink in the tiki bar while waiting for the airline to show up with fresh clothes and watching the light show.

rain happens, and there's nothing you can do about it, so always have alternate plans in mind - and pay attention to the weather forecasts!

lost luggage is a matter of incompetence on somebody's part. the thing to remember, though, is that the clerk you're complaining to is not the person who lost your luggage, so getting pissy with them isn't going to help. most of the time, the airline will find your stuff and get it back to you as quickly as they can.

Christmas tree lights tangle, as inevitably as rain happening. they're never so tangled that you can't untangle them somehow... and they're easier to untangle when they're lit. (although knowing how to swear in Klingon helps.)

Mine actually don't tangle. I have them on these reel things like hose reels, and you just wind them on and wind them back off.

Of course, because I said that, this year I'm going to go get them out of the attic and they'll all be one huge tangled mess.

i tried the flat plastic winders once. the lights on each one got tangled with lights on other winders, making it even harder to untangle them than if i'd just thrown all the strings in a box :-(

Rainy day - go inside and get the soldering iron out and do geeky stuff. Or play computer games. Or, if on the bike riding home from work, get utterly soaked.

Lost luggage - feel relief that I always carry my laptop as hand luggage!

Tangled Christmas lights - I don't have any to get tangled :-) Bah humbug! (Actually, I will have to this year since it's my turn to do Christmas dinner)

Speaking of one of those three things, I have something sitting here waiting for you next time you come visit. :)
