Two weeks of WiiFit-ing.
Yesterday, the WiiFit congratulated me on 2 weeks of working out, and then respice reminded me I'd promised to blog about it.

In a nutshell: I love it.

The yoga is fun. And the balance board gives you the feedback to get it right before you get frustrated. You can see on the graph - "Oh, I need more weight on my hands!" - exactly where your center of balance should be. If you're way off, something's very wrong; if you're just a little bit off, you can figure out what to tweak to get it right. I can at least make a reasonable attempt at all the poses but one.

The strength training is less fun, but not terrible. There are a few more of these I can't do - my wrist just won't tolerate weight on it at a 90 degree angle. I can do things where I put weight on it as long as it doesn't have to be directly below my shoulder. This rules out all the pushup-based exercises. The strength exercises are where I've seen the most improvement - things I couldn't do at all two weeks ago I'm actually finishing now.

The real fun are the aerobic and balance games. My favorites are the "advance step" (like DDR, you move to the music, but much less complicated footwork) and the boxing. I've been spending 10 minutes of my 30 every day boxing, and I'm finally managing to get a "Nice job!" out of the trainer. It's amazing how rewarding it is to be praised by the trainers, but that says more about me then about the game.

I've been doing some combination of these to accumulate 30 minutes of "fit credits" every day. I've been picking one row of yoga poses, doing each one, then doing the strength exercises that match that pose (it tells you what you should pair up), then filling the rest of the time with aerobic games. Then the next day I do the next row, giving me a nice 3-day rotation.

I try not to count the balance games in workout time, because they're more about subtle movements. I made it across the tightrope the other night for the first time (and unlocked the advanced version, which I haven't tried yet), and I can feed the penguins for hours. Even the "roll the ball into the hole" game is interesting enough to keep me coming back and trying just one more time to get a better score.

Those are the good points. On the flip side, I have two major issues with it: First, it really bugs you about weight. Like most women my size, my weight can go up and down a pound or so a day, and varies about 10lbs over the course of a month. That's not unusual, but the Fit wants me to pick a reason every time my weight goes up, even if it's generally trending downwards. And there's no option for "That's just the way my body works". I don't mind weighing in every day to get my star on the calender, but I don't want to be harassed to pick a reason why my numbers went up.

The other one is probably only me: On weeknights, I've been playing after dinner, but on weekends, I've been playing before bed. I've been working out until I accumulated half an hour of time for that day - but at midnight, it resets your counter to 0. I want to say "don't roll over until the end of a session" or even "set the rollover time to 3am".

Oh, and I'd love the ability to set a playlist, where I say "I want to do these 10 things in a row today". Right now I'm appreciating the breaks when I have to go back and choose the next exercise from the menu, but I suspect I'll eventually get annoyed by that.

Still, it's rare for me to find a type of exercise where I find myself making excuses to play longer instead of making excuses to not do it at all.

Why do you have to tell me this? I've been really really trying not to give in to my desire to purchase a Wii.

You have no room to talk! You got me into TSO, and Galaxies, and WoW. Oh, yeah, and I think you were responsible for the PS and the DDR pad.

So it's your turn now. :)

I think ATITD too. Supposedly the new telling is starting this summer. I hope they lose the levels.

Oh, wow. I figured they'd give up by now. That last telling was supposed to be 6 months long...like 2 years ago.

I was just thinking about papyrus-growing the other day. Maybe I'll have to resubscribe.

Evil, you are. Pure, unadulterated evil. :)

That sounds awesome. Too bad I'm po'. I get bored easily, and it sounds like you get enough variety to keep exercising interesting.
