From logwatch this morning:
Total SMTP Session, Message, and Recipient Errors handled by Sendmail: 162092
162,000 errors in 24 hours. That's 6753 an hour, 112 a minute, so nearly 2 a second. It's been going on for 8 days now - in the beginning, I was seeing 4-5 connections a second.

One of my users appears to have been job-jobbed. Someone's sending out spam with his domain in the header, and 162,000 mail servers a day are connecting to verify the invalid usernames in those emails. Sendmail's been holding up fine, and it's barely caused a blip (besides creating some epic log files). My mail isn't getting delayed, and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it, so I'm just letting it run its course.

But, wow - I'm so glad I'm not running Exchange!

In other news, I borrowed Mike's bike to ride to breakfast this morning. Fine throttle control is difficult, but that'll work itself out in a few days of riding, I hope.

Do you have SPF set up on your DNS records? That might help.

I've never done it, but we're low-volume at the mighty whiterose empire.
