Gimme an M!
I went off and took the motorcycle safety course this weekend, and as of this morning, I have an M on my driver's license.

It was quite a workout - more physically then mentally, but at least a little of both. I managed to make it through the whole weekend without dropping a bike.

And I finally made a decision on what I want. I actually listened (for once) to all the people who told me that I was looking at too much bike...so I'm settled on a Ninja 500R. I rode a 250 during one of the breaks at the class and really, really liked it. It was a bike that just screamed, 'Take me out and play!'.

It reminded me an awful lot of the Starduster.

Now, I just have to find a purple one, close to home.

You're welcome anytime. :) Don't you have a relative in Dallas? That's not far by airplane or motorcycle...

i don't think it comes in purple :-(
(you'd have to have it specially painted.)

my "brother" (we were born into different families by mistake) lives in Dallas... he flies, and he used to ride. in fact, the last time i was on a bike was a couple of his wives ago, when he still owned a bike; we drove to the airstrip on it, of course ;-)

They don't come in purple anymore. The last year they came in purple was 2001, but I was going to buy a used one anyway.

The other option would be to buy one of a random color, and in 6 months when I was most likely done dropping it, just pay the $400 to buy all new plastic fairings and paint it the way I want it....

option #2 sounds like a plan to me.

damn - i don't have any suitable boots! back in the Cretaceous Era, when i learned to ride, i found that the only women's boots i could get that had leather soles were cowboy boots - not that i minded. now, of course, i could get work boots or something (assuming they come in an extra-wide-calf model). but i know better than to wear anything with rubber soles on a bike.

The instructor said, "Well, now you're all ready to graduate....to a bigger parking lot".

I have a good helmet, good gloves, and good boots already. And a mesh/Kevlar jacket - leather is just too hot 9 months of the year here (today, it's nearly 95F. And it's September!), and I'd rather have mesh that I didn't mind wearing then leather that I'm going to hate. I have been drooling over chaps for winter, though, and I do have a nice leather flying jacket already which should work great when it cools a bit.

I have (had?) a friend who was killed when a pickup ran a stop sign and broadsided him on his Harley. I plan to be careful - but then again, who doesn't?

(and, of course, if you ever find yourself in the same part of the world as me, you're welcome to a ride. :)
